The incident occurred around 5:15 a.m. Monday at 1617 East Main Street, between Spring Street and Autumn Street, said Av Harris, director of Legislative Affairs/Public Policy for the City of Bridgeport.
According to Harris, a preliminary investigation revealed Christopher Bernard Mann, 36, was in the northbound lane of East Main Street near the double yellow lines. A silver motor vehicle traveling north on East Main Street hit Mann and then dragged him for approximately 50 feet before he landed in the middle of the road and the car fled the area.
Silver colored plastic debris lay in the roadway in the area of impact. Harris said it's unknown whether the vehicle fled north on East Main Street or east or west on Boston Avenue.
Mann was declared dead at 5:29 p.m. at Bridgeport Hospital.
